A Day in the Life...

What a great start to the day. This morning I received a lovely email from a friend in the States and at the end of her email she had put:

Life's journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out, shouting "HOLY CRAP....What a ride!"

Disclaimer: No trees were killed in the sending of this message. However, a large number of electrons were terribly inconvenienced.

Isn't the first one great! Can't you imagine sliding into your coffin puffing and panting and wiping the sweat off your brow, screaming, "Woohoooooo!"? It puts me in mind me of the Tower of Terror ride at Dreamworld.

And of course, I love the sense of the ridiculous in the second paragaph. Can you imagine, all these little greeblies running around grumbling and totally disconcerted because someone has sent an email and put them all out of kilter?

I love receiving emails. Some are clever, some are beautiful, some are funny and some just plain awful. However, I love receiving them because it means someone has thought about me during their day and that's a nice feeling. What I don't like however, is receiving the emails that threaten you with dire warnings if you do not send it on. You know, the bulk of the email has a positive and beautiful message and then the whole effect is negated at the end by someone saying: "If you do not pass this one you will have bad luck for seven years." I did receive one that told me something awful would happen to me if I did not pass the email on within an hour. I deleted it and nothing "awful" has happened to me.

To me, it seems that the person(s) who make up and send these emails are more into bullying and harassing than being thoughtful and considerate towards others. Why send a beautiful message if it going to be spoilt by putting veiled threats at the end of it? It renders the original message worthless. If I want to pass on a thoughtful and beautiful email, I will. But if I get threatened by awful things happening to me if I don't pass it on, sorry, the email gets deleted. I'm not going to pass on that kind of negativity to my friends and family.

However, on a lighter note, there is actually one exception to my rule. I received one about chocolate - I can't remember the actual content now, but it did say at the end that if I didn't send it on, I would gain five kilos. I didn't want to take that risk...

My lunch with my friend, Margaret, went very well. We had a lovely afternoon and caught up on all each other's news and no, we didn't have to go out to eat. I got my act together this morning and whipped up a vichysoisse (you know, potato and leek soup with sour cream, but vichysoisse sounds good) with yummy crunchy garlic and herb bread and then, guess what? I bought a punnet of lovely big luscious strawberries and dipped them in dark chocolate and we had them for dessert. To go with all this, we also had some wine. Isn't that lovely and decadent? I just love this not working full time. I can actually have a life!

Ms Flossy lent me her digital camera yesterday along with the printer dock. I was wary, I was. But, after faffing around and downloading upgrades (that does help, believe me), I took some photos of Furball and pushed the button and voila! it worked. I was so pleased with myself that I emailed Ms Flossy and told her what I had done. I thought I was so clever, but I came down to earth with a thump this morning. I sent an email off to friends and family telling them all about this blog and where they could find it, etc. When Margaret came over, she said, "I received an email from you this morning." I started preening and said, "Yes, I have started an online journal."
"Well," said Margaret, "when I clicked on the address you sent, all I got was an email form." Yes, you guessed it. "Supergeek" (d'oh) had sent the email address instead of the website.

Well, my new little grandson is being brought over for a visit by his mama and papa, therefore I will finish this so I can have a cuddle.

Take care and be kind to yourselves.
