It's cold! The day is fine but the wind is very chilly as it's coming from the west, straight from the Outback and across the Great Dividing Range to buffet us. This happens in August and around Ekka time. So we shiver for a couple of weeks and then, miraculously the winds cease, the weather is warmer and summer is just around the corner. Can't wait. Yes, humidity and all. Hopefully we will have a proper Wet this summer and the dams will fill up. According to some boffins on TV the other night, Queensland could be in for a 100 year drought! Can you believe it? One hundred years!! Too depressing for words...
On a brighter note, my brother and sister-in-law are coming to visit from New Zealand in a couple of weeks so it will be nice to see them. It's my s-i-l's 60th birthday and she wants to go whale watching. They will stay with our other brother up on the Sunshine Coast for a couple of nights, then go up to Fraser Island and whale watching for another couple of days, come back down to Mooloolaba, come and stay with me then fly off to Perth on the other side of Australia to see my s-i-l's daughter. They're going to be pretty busy.
Had a bit of minor excitement last evening. I was browning some chicken and onions for a casserole but didn't have the extractor fan on. Consequently, the heat set the fire alarm off. It's so piercing! I was running around frantically opening doors and windows and I turned the ceiling fans on to fast (in the process, freezing my butt off) until the alarm stopped. In a small area like my place, the noise is diabolical. But I always forget to put the extractor fan on when I am using the stove top and consequently the alarm goes off. One of these days, I will remember what it's there for!

hehehehe ... done that, with the extractor fan not on, and the smoke detectors screeching !!! Not nice !!
Scary thought ... 100 year drought. My parents just came back from 2 weeks at Hervey Bay, and said that it is much drier your way than it is down here in Victoria. We thought our catchments were low ... under 50%, but apparently yours are heaps less. Here's hoping for some decent rain soon, in both our states.

Join the Club! I"m ALWAYS setting my smoke detector off when I cook on the stove top! And I have to run around looking for a chair to stand on so I can grab it and yank the battery out of it, since nothing else works! Also, the very first time in the autumn that I turn the heater on, it sets the fire alarm off then, as well! We're going to be deaf as posts from the piercing shriek of the things! But the food sounds gooooood!!!
