I've Finished!

Yep, my five week stint of full time has ended...today. I ran out of work and my boss said he was "delighted!" and "It's so nice to have someone reliable to come in during holiday and sick days." Isn't that nice? Mind you, they do pay me very well to do it and normally I don't mind, but this was a particularly long period of full time work...and I'm glad it's over.

Also, another nice thing...we've had the best lot of rain for about seven years. Certainly not drought breaking by a long shot (although some idiots think so). Seven years of drought is certainly not broken in 24 hours. More like 24 days of continuous rain, and we could start thinking like that.

I'm not sure if I told you about my sister-in-law, the one that came and visited last year. I rang mum for a chat on Sunday and she told me that my SIL had had a mild stroke. I was so upset (on top of being upset) to hear that. She is 18 months younger than me, a fit and youthful looking lady. But...she's also a Type A personality, you know...driven, competitive, over-achiever...this is at work. She is also a worrier and stresses out badly at times.

Anyway, she's realised this is a wake up call so she and my brother are selling up and moving to the beach. She is not impaired in any way and realises she's had a warning...sensible lady. So it's the simple life for them...and not the Paris and Nicole type, either.

Tomorrow is my eldest daughter's partner's birthday, so we're all going out to dinner. What with his lot and our lot...there are a lot. I bought him a Wollemi pine. To those of you who don't live in Australia, these trees were thought to be extinct until about 10 years ago. Someone (not sure who) found an isolated grove of them in the Blue Mountains. Since then, seedlings have been carefully raised and sold to garden nurseries for people to buy. They're not cheap, a small one is $50 but with that comes a package giving the history, care and cultivation details and a certificate. It's the sort of gift to give a mad keen gardener, which Darryl is. My daughter said he'll be rapt. I hope so.

It's only a small post tonight...I'm exhausted. It's been quite a week. So, I'm going to bed and...I don't have to turn the radio alarm on...yippeeeee!

Good for you. Now you can spend the money! If you haven't already!

Poor SIL but what a wise decision. I hope she has many years to enjoy ahead of her.

What a wonderful present! I bet he will be delighted. And it's fantastic that a tree thought to be extinct isn't. Have a wonderful meal with the family. You deserve it.

Dear Robyn ~~ Great to see you posting again, ans I am so glad your work has finished for now. Sorry your
SIL had a minor stroke, but it seems to have worked well as a warning.
Have a lovely dinner with your family. I'm sure your SIL will love
the tree you have for him.
Take care, dear friend, Love, Merle.

I bet you are glad it's over Robyn and I also bet you slept like a baby last night!

I'm sure the "sea change' will turn out to be the best decision for your SIL, Robyn. Smart lady by heeding the warning.

I hope you have a great time with the family...have a glass or two of red for me! ;)

Make sure you wear your winter woolies, Robyn...this wind is certainly icy today! I'm all rugged up and intend staying that way. I'm about to make a big pot of chicken soup!

Hi Robyn ~~ Thank you for the comments. I agree about the drivers who drink. So, you got to turn your heater on. Some of my friends in Q'ld
don't own heaters. Mine has been working for the last 2 or 3 weeks.
Awful storms around Sydney and Newcastle on the news. I hope you enjoy the long weekend too.
Take care, Love, Merle.

Robyn,
What an opportune time for a party...just when your ready for a little reprieve.
The tree idea is so cool!
It is nice to be appreciated for your work, both in word and renumeration. ;-)
How fortunate that your SIL got a warning. So many don't. The important thing is her decision to do something about it.
When you're sipping a little red, think of me as well as Lee.

Re what you said at the top: in one of my old jobs I got replaced by 2 people. No compliment anyone could have said could have flattered me more!

(Unfortunately I was only getting paid as one though. How annoying.)
