Bits and Bobs

Yes, I know. I've been very slack...I haven't posted since whenever it was. I have been busy though. The wedding is only a week away and so things are hotting up in that area (oops, Freudian slip there...heheh).

With respect to the Moreton Bay bugs...someone asked what we ate them with. Ok...you cook them the way you'd cook crayfish, lobsters or crabs...in a large pot of boiling water. You then crack the shell and pick the sweet flesh out and make a total pig of yourself...the best way to go. Or, you could be terribly couth and spread the meat on a bed of lettuce, artistically arrange other seafoods like prawns, oysters, sushi, etc around, garnish with wasabi sauce, lemon or whatever and people help themselves, using the appropriate utensils rather than fingers. Frankly, I prefer the first way...but, there you go. One of our doctors likes to eat the meat with soy mixed with some wasabi. I prefer it with a little Thousand Island Dressing or roasted garlic sauce, it depends on your tastes. Enjoy...those of you who live outside of Australia, try this delicacy when you come here...if you like lobsters, you'll like bugs.

* * * * * * * *

Now, as I said, I have been busy. First of all, there's the small chore of earning money to live on...that keeps me out of mischief for part of the time. But this week, I've been involved with finding an outfit for my daughter's wedding on the 29th, which is tomorrow week.

Yesterday, Thursday, I felt like I'd travelled the length and breadth of South East Queensland looking for something to wear. I stipulated what I was looking for, mentioned that it was an informal garden wedding and that I wanted something summery. I got shown black, navy and brown outfits, I got shown cream and white outfits, very formal outfits and totally unsuitable outfits. Imagine 60+, more than slightly overweight in pleats and clingy tops...ugh, not a good look!

So, out I went again today as I also had to do my weekly shop as well. The fridge and pantry were looking decidedly spare. It's amazing what 24 hours does. In the first half hour, I found my outfit. No, I'm not going to tell you what it is, you can wait and see the photos.

However, I was so excited about finding something, I was halfway home when I realised I'd left my shopping at Woolie's parcel pick up, so had to turn around and get them. I was on such a high though, that it didn't faze me at all. Normally, I'd have been totally pinged off about that.

So, that's what's been happening. We had a wedding crisis last week, but that resolved itself...and the wedding is still on. To be quite honest, I'll be glad when it's all over and life gets back to normal. Well, for a little while, anyway. As I have mentioned before, there's never a dull moment around this place...but we welcome them when they do happen.

Enjoy your weekend.

You know, there are priorities other than blogging—and you have quite a bit on your plate. Deal with that first and blog when you can. I, for one, won’t stop dropping by!

How fascinating to eat something called a "bug"... it looks like a bedbug to me: 10,000 times magnified!!

they're reduced to eating bright red fish now on the Cornish coasts... spiny bright red fish they used to mash up and sell as catfood for 25p a kilo now sell for £4 a kilo as human delicacy!

Hi Robyn, Warren and I were trying hard not to be offended by your suggestion that we would probably feature on the "Australia's Most Wanted" show until we worked out that it had a mainly female audience so why wouldn't we be the most wanted. snigger, snigger, snort.

I'll be around. You do what you can when you can.

Thanks for the "bug" update. The wasabi and soy sounds like my way to go. Rather like sushi or sashimi.

Yum.

I still say it should be called something else than "BUG"! lol Oh Robyn, good for you for finding an outfit to wear at the wedding...isn't it amazing though what some salespeople will try to make you buy, even if it's unsuitable? Ugh! As for life getting in the way of blogging...well, it happens! lol xox

I'm glad you were able to find your wedding outfit, Robyn. God! I hate having to find something special. I never seem to have much luck!

With the bugs, I split the "green" bug in half, lengthwise, and usually cook them in a wok or large pan with garlic butter (with a little olive oil), salt and ground black pepper, of course, to taste. Throw in a pinch of chilli if you like, a squeeze of lemon juice...cumin is good too...diced parsley or shallots...and that's about it...or for those who like a cream sauce...make a garlic-cream sauce with either white wine or brandy and toss in the halved bugs and "just" cook...and mop up the juices in either case with loads of crunchy-crusted fresh bread! ;)

Not long to go now until the wedding!! I do hope the weather holds for you all...I think it will. :) No...I don't "think"...I KNOW it will. :)

When I saw the title i though wow she is going to post about a couple of Bobs and her bits then you say you have to work and thus been staying out of mischief damn.

You are a busy lady but I see a break in the near future when the wedding is over.

With all the stress the wedding party and familes have to go through you would think they would get to go on the honeymoon to recover not the bride and groom LOL

Have a nice weekend

Nothing gives you a bigger high than when you FINALLY find the perfect outfit especially when you loathe and detest shopping as much as I do. Can't wait to see you all decked out in your glad rags.

Never fear Robyn, we will all still be checking in for when you have some spare time to blog again.

that's five days away! what happened? It was far in the future before. the dress thing would've terrified me; i would've asked for a jeans-only wedding! so i'm glad you were able to find something good.
