"The Prez" Downunder

Poor George Dubya...he has provided one of our satire shows with heaps of material...it's the best circus in town. For those not in Australia, we have a programme called "The Chaser's War on Everything" and nothing or no-one is exempt from these guys...and they looooove politicians, especially ones with the clout of George Dubya (who's here with Condy Rice...didya know?)

I watched last night's episode of Chaser and almost killed myself laughing at the antics... They took off the fact that when an APEC meeting is held, the host country provides gratis shirts for the various delegates...only they tried to take flannel shirts past the check points...it didn't work, but it was hilariously funny.

However today, they made fools of the coppers and security...what a wonderful stunt...which ended in the guys' arrest. They managed to penetrate the "ring of steel" (the fence erected around the hotel and surrounds) and security and got right up to George Dubya's hotel, the Intercontinental. How did they do it? They had a real you beaut motorcade, with limos, four wheel drive outriders front and back. They were arrested when their "special guest" passenger alighted from the car...Charles Liccardello dressed as Osama bin Laden! The coppers were not amused, but here goes my warped sense of humour again...I thought it was hilarious!

I'd better shut up, otherwise the next post might come to you via some correctional centre...lol!
I must admit that we are rather bemused at the enormous entourage that has accompanied El Prez...ok, Condy has a couple of hundred but Dubya has the most hangers on. Oh well, good for those who've never been to Aus before.

But, but...get this, we have the Doomsday Plane parked at Brisbane International Airport. I think I'm impressed, especially when we heard that it's a back up to Airforce One in case of war. It's a mobile command centre, apparently.

So there you go, US citizens, just an update on where your tax dollars are being spent...
If I haven't been respectful enough for your liking...I'm sorry, but Australians have very little respect for those in power...as John Howard and Prime Ministers before him well know. Hey, it's all part of the job for them.

Robyn,
The great thing about Georgie is that he makes ya proud to be an american. :(

A good hearty laugh is good for the soul.

Oh Robyn, I love your irreverence (sorry fellow bloggers if any of you don't like Robyn's jesting, but she's right - Aussies don't take anyone or anything *too* seriously...not even Presidents or Prime Ministers!!)

Have a relaxing evening Robyn :)

Thanks for the update, Robyn. And, if at all possible (as I keep writing to you folks down under) keep him down there.

We Canadians are the same as you Australians then...politicians are to be made fun of! LOL We have a couple of shows like your Chaser one that makes fun of politics all the time and it's hilarious. I don't care if you're the President or the Prime Minister...I wouldn't cross the street to go see you! lol xox

I have to agree to disagree, Robyn..but then you already know my opinion of the Chaser mob. I don't find them funny at all. I've tried to watch them but always switch over...they just annoy the hell out of me.

True...they did find a weakness in the security set-up, but it was a very dangerous game they were playing, in my opinion. It could have ended up very sticky for them.

Anyway, as I said, you know my thoughts....;)

Bush may not please everyone but I believe some should be careful about what they wish for. Hillarious Clintoon is not a suitable substitute, nor is Obama, to my thinking. I will get off my soap box now...that poor old soap box certainly gets a battering! ;)

Hi Robyn ~~ I didn't think the Chasers were very funny at all and
things could have turned nasty.
But to each his own -- opinion.
My friend Karen has given me another
Nice Matters award to pass on to 8 others, so I have chosen you to be one of them. The logo is at top of my sidebar and Karen on blogroll.
Pass it on to 8 others.
Take care, Love, Merle.

Hi Robyn, I have a house full of visitors so I haven't been reading my own mail much less yours.... fair to say neither of us were likely to miss Steve's anniversary or Dubya's visit... I think there are a few other "world leaders?" here too????
Keep up the good work and I'll try to just keep up.

HI Robyn,
Im with you I nearly luaghed my gut up. Joe and I laughed more at the guy getting his heel clipped lol, So much for the ring of steel, more like a jelly one lol. I loved the one about Ruddy, that was good too. Why do these guys loose their sense of humour that must be what the stick up their butt nudged out of place. Freedom of speach is a wonderful thing hey

Don't worry, Europeans don't have any respect either and George Double U is such a nice subject. I always laugh myself to death too when they imitate him or turn around the sense of what he said. Sometimes it's not even necessary ! I saw a few pictures of Sidney on TV, it looks the same mess as in Brussels ! The hotel employees had been checked since their birth (or maybe back to the great great grandpa) if they had not been terrorist babies and only then they were allowed to serve dear Double U ! I think he will go into history as the president who caused the most jokes ever !

You are dead right about the Aussies and their "couldn't give a toss" attitude about our illustrious leaders. They are great fodder for comedians anywhere. However....I have to say that stunt was a bit irresponsible, they could have easily been killed. Shoot first, ask questions later. I'm amazed that got out of it unscathed.

Hey there was a thing about Clinton on the other day... I'd actually forgotten the great mess HE got himself in... having said that I still think the Gulf War is a bigger disaster!

I hope you are having a happy weekend... isn't it about 5 a.m. where you are now? It is nearly half past six at night here Friday night...

If you come to mine please try voting on my pole... i want to see if it works as much as anything...

take care!

All the best

Hey Robyn: no offense at all. Know what's offensive? Thousands of people dying all over the place because of that man. Now THAT is so offensive I am embarrassed to be an American. I agree with sometimes saintly nick: you can keep him there (but I like you too much and then you would lose your rights).

Oh dear. I shouldn't have said a thing. Now I'm in trouble.

George doesn't really deserve any respect though, does he?

Why does he need so many people with him? And doe sthe doomsday plane always go? Or is he expecting trouble? Does he know something we don't? Should we building bunkers?
