Two Birthdays...

Yesterday, 15 December there were birthdays for both Ken and my mum. Mum turned 89 and Ken was 80. Unfortunately, because Mum lives in another country, she wasn't able to be at the birthday celebrations last night. However, when I rang her, she toasted Ken with a glass of wine and we, in turn, toasted her.

Our neighbours, Wendy and Roger, were there with their kids, as was Fred's mum, Sylvia. Roger, Jane's brother (yes, I know, two Rogers...confusing at times) is a chef and he volunteered to cook dinner for us all, and this was on his day off. Jane had made dessert of pavlova and tropical fruit salad (fresh mango, melon, banana and pineapple), plus there was a chocolate birthday cake. Roger cooked up fried rice, crispy beef chow mein and sweet and sour prawns...ohhhh yummmmm. We had pink bubbles, white and red wines, plus soft drinks for the kids and the guys had beer, except for Ken who can't stand the taste of alcohol so has never drunk any...wise man.

When dinner was served it was greeted with sounds of pleasure and then there was an appreciative silence as we savoured the delicious meal. After dinner, we sang Happy Birthday and Ken gave a lovely speech thanking his family and friends and giving thanks for the fortunate life and wonderful family he has. I felt a bit of a tear in my eye.

It was a lovely evening, Ken received lots of loot, the kids had fun inside with SingStar and we sat and chatted. Here are some photos...

Roger cooking the fried rice.

Pouring the sweet and sour sauce into the prawns.

Tossing the veg...see the flames.

Sylvia (Fred's mum) alongside Ken.

Wendy looking quizzical with Michael (her son) and Victoria (his girlfriend).

Jane, Roger and Ken (with some of his loot).

What a great party and lovely celebration and even more: Delicious food - one can almost smell it in the pictures and my mouth is watering - thanks for sharing!

I can also tell the different in our climate this season; it would have been cold to have a cook out in Norway during Yuletide you know :-)

Hope you have a Merry Christmas...

Happy birthday to Ken and your Mum. Looks like a good time was had by all and that dinner sounded delicious. Food always tastes better when someone else is cooking it don't you think?

Just wanted to stop by and thank you for your kind words regarding our ordeal with my daughter this week. I think Peter was pointing you to the post below that one, where I talked about Vicki! You make food the way I love, even though it's Winter and dark up here in Norway (Sunrise after 9 am and Sunset before 3 pm - the Sunlight Day is now 13 hours shorter than Mid Summer).

It seems we have something in common:
Our, still living Mothers, both 89 young years in 2008.
As my Mother does live in our area, we will have a 4 generation dinner on X-Mas Eve. That's great;))

btw. If you want a delayed X-Mas card from Norway, send me your e-mail adress here:
