A lovely day

After a drive that had me thinking I was going to end up in Sydney, I finally made it to Greenmount Beach, along from Coolangatta Beach...quieter. I found the rest of the family who had bagged a spot under a large pandanus palm and dumped my stuff, unfolded my chair, sat back in comfort and refused to move any further. I'd found my spot for the day.

The grandkids went down for a swim along with a parent or two...not that these kids needed any supervision. They're teenagers and knew to swim between the flags but Cooper had to be supervised by his daddy.

While they were away, Joan, my son-in-law's mother, and I chatted and watched people passing by. The police were doing a lot of policing...four on foot and four in a paddy wagon. My youngest daughter was eyeing up one whom she pronounced as "cute'. Then some of the kids came back from their swim and we started putting out lunch. I suggested to Joan that we eat before the hordes swooped. So we did...then the hordes swooped.

After lunch a game of beach cricket was the go, then another swim, back for a nibble of something and a drink of water or juice. And so it went on. There was a family next to us and the father was playing with his son, tossing a frisbee back and forth. The coppers in the paddy wagon came past, the father put his hands up in the air, the little boy pointed excitedly and the copper leant out the window, pointed at the kid and yelled to his partner, "There he is! That's the one we want!" We were laughing, as was the father, who suggested the coppers stick the little kid in the back of the paddy wagon. And then, to the little boy's absolute delight, the copper gave a burst on the siren. It was so funny and really nice of the copper...I think he must have had kids of his own.

Of course, our lot came back and wondered what all the excitement was. They'd heard the siren so we told them what happened. Then when the same coppers came around again, my cheeky daughters invited them to come and have lunch...especially the cute one. They just laughed and said they'd had lunch, thanks. I'm not sure if that's an offence or not...flirting with a copper.

I took some pictures, but I was pretty tired when I got home and managed to delete a few. All I have left are these:

Another swim, something more to eat or cricket?...decisions, decisions.
Cooper versus icecream. Cooper won, but it was close.

After lunch, bodies replete.

Robyn, thanks for sharing such a wonderful family outing. Glad to know you all had a great time.

Being a retired Military Police officer, I recall how many of the troops used to enjoy working with the kids.

As for flirting being an offence. I am not sure about Australian law, but I am sure that the coppers are not allowed to fraternize whilst on duty. Too bad he didn't demand her ID. But, then, the cute guy might be "taken" already. chortle

Hope your Australian Day was just what you wanted it to be.

Happy Austrailia Day!!
It looks and sounds like you all had a wonderful day. Thanks for reminding me that Summer will come here again too. It has been very cold. I nearly froze when I took my dogs out for a walk today.
We were all very happy to get back inside out cozy little cottage.
Enjoy the sun for me!

Sounds like a great place to live. We see police as relatives to cockroaches here, except that cockroaches are nicer :-) Gong Xi Fah Cai!

Flirting with a police officer sounds like something I'd do!! I love Coolangatta and worked there for a while cleaning holiday apartments. Do you remember the post I wrote on Gypsy about being stranded in Qld in the plane strike years ago....well Coolangatta is where I was staying. There are worst places to get stranded I suppose.

Sounds like you all had a very relaxing day. Wonderful pics too.

You know,
when the winter here in Norway is not like expected, we dream about what you here have posted.

Else, when normal winter, we go for a short Cross Country Skiing in the late afternoon.

But alas,
we have to play with our Cats - Mieowww. Then we have fun.

Oh Robyn, sounds like it was a perfect day and so relaxing! With all the snow we have here and frigid temps, I'm dreaming of being able to go to a beach like that. lol Cooper is so darling, I can't get over how much he's grown. I love it when families get together like that:-) I had to laugh at the "flirting with the copper" part...if one is to be arrested, might as well be by a cute copper, right?? hehe xoxo
