Generous Aussies

Some wonderful news amid all the carnage of the bushfires. Over the last week, Australians have donated over $80m to help the victims of the bushfires. Isn't that just wonderful?

Channel Nine held a telethon last night with the likes of Russell Crowe, Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban, to name just a few of the stars and celebraties who gave of their time, to raise $12m. Now all of this money is not counting the Federal Government's aid.

Also, Indonesia and Papua New Guinea have donated several million dollars each. It's been a terrible tragedy but out of that tragedy comes a sense of unity throughout the whole country. Everyone (bar a few scum) just wants to do what they can to help.

Kevin Rudd is going to announce a national day of mourning to allow all Australians to grieve and I think it is something that is badly needed. Meanwhile, stories of big hearted heroes are coming through all the time and it is so uplifting and gives one a sense of hope that, in all this desolation, the majority of people are decent folk and don't think twice about putting their lives on the line for complete strangers.

Unfortunately, the murderers, rapists, thieves. paedophiles and fraudsters get all the headlines. Today, however, we are seeing ordinary unassuming folk, going beyond the call of every day actions to save others, getting their share of the headlines and it's about time too.

So, let's give a big cheer to the wonderful people of Australia. HIP, HIP HOORAY!!!

Dear Robyn ~ ~ The last I heard, none of the fires still burning are close to homes and people. So unless we get bad wind changes, we should be OK this weekend. This is a really good post Robyn and so many generous people are helping out with money, goods, or time. I hope every firefighter gets a medal out of this. I also feel emotionally drained like you and it has been a horrendous week. Let us hope for better next week.
And RAIN, RAIN is what we need.
Take care dear friend, Love, Merle.

Robyn,
It's a great restorer of faith when everyday folks as well as celebrities come together for the common good and give without question.

Its the average people of a nation and the world who understand and are the backbone of survival that will always step up to the plate and show their hearts when they are needed.
I salute those who care for their nieghbor.

Happy Valentines day to you and all those who show their love today for their fellow humans

God bless all the big hearted people who are helping.
It's true that when something like this happens, the people join together.
It seems that disasters like this remind us how much we really need each other.

HIP, HIP HOORAY!!!

It's the least I can do.

I am constantly pleased to learn that the average person is willing to pitch and provide whatever service she/he can in times of difficulty. Were I in Australia, I would do what I could. For now, you will have to be satisfied with scads of positive energy coming your way.

Hurray! It's when the going gets tough people really show some heart.

I heard that Leonard Cohen, Kylie & Danii Minogue, Natalie Imbruglia donated money too.
