Out to Dinner...Again

Jane, Fred and their two boys, Mitchell and Scott decided to go out for Chinese. So they asked Ken, Jane's dad, then me. Then Fred rang his mum, Sylvia, and we had a ring in...Scott's little friend, Sarah, from down the back. We picked Sylvia up on the way and two car loads of us headed for the Chinese restaurant about 20 minutes away. Jane did have the foresight to ask, when she rang and booked a table, if they used MSG in their cooking. Apparently it was only in the marinades so I knew to stay away from them.
The food was beautiful...we had a banquet. Sarah and Scott had fish and chips and Ken had honey prawns with fried rice. Although the photos are a bit dark because the flash was playing up I turned it off, this is what we had...

Delicious chicken and corn soup. There were prawn crackers to have with this but they always remind me of pieces of pink polystyrene so I gave those a miss.

Entree. Clockwise from top. Sesame toast, pork dim sims and mini spring rolls with soy dipping sauce.

The banquet. Fried rice...

Chinese style steak...

Mongolian lamb...

Chicken and crab...

Combination seafood...

Honey prawns...

Dessert for those who wanted it. Fred had this fried banana and ice cream. I thought it was most most obscene looking dessert I'd ever seen...

It was a beautiful meal and the banquet was only $25 per head. The dessert included in the banquet was actually fruit salad and ice cream but swapping that for fried banana was only $1 extra. Coffee and tea was included but we decided not to have that; I don't think anyone had room. We did have a glass of wine with the meal, Fred had a beer and the alcohol was extra. However, the house wine was only $6 per glass which I thought was pretty reasonable.

I didn't have the drastic after effects from the last Chinese meal I ate a couple of weeks ago when I was at my brother's place, although I didn't feel like my usual mug of morning coffee and had green tea instead.

I love chinese too, the best chinese food I ever had was in San Francisco's China town and in London's China town. There are still restaurants which are not adapted to western food and most of the guests are chinese. We were an exception.

Looks yummy! I love Chinese food and often eat in Chinese restaurants. I must say, this is the first time I've seen the banana and ice-cream dessert presented like this. Very funny!

Mmmmmmmmmmmmm, I so love Chinese food. But, I tend to make it myself since so many restaurants use MSG that is not good for the heart rhythms. I need to watch out for that in cooking...but it all looks so darned yummy.

G'day Robyn ~~ Sounds like a great
night out with lots of friends. But
surely you didn't have some of every course? I know they serve small portions, but heck there were a nice lot there.
Thanks for your comments, and it has been another cold day, but no rain.
Glad you enjoyed the jokes, quotes etc. Take care, my friend.
Love, Merle.

Obscene dessert. HAHAHAHA!
It does sort of look odd.
I wouldn't like a fried banana.

You had a lovely feast I think. All your pictures make me hungry for Chinese, without the MSG for sure.

Yummy! Looks like you had a great meal.
We ate Thai last night but Chinese is def on the menu for Friday. I like the spicy food from Schezuan best.

mm, yummy. I love sesame toast - and prawn crackers!

That's the good thing about a big group - you get lots of different dishes to try.
