Tsumani Alert

Australia's east coast has been put on tsunami alert following a powerful undersea earthquake.

The Australian Bureau of Meteorology says Tasmania, Victoria and NSW could be hit by waves on Wednesday evening following the quake off the southwest coast of New Zealand's South Island at 7.22pm (AEST).
(NineMSN News Website - 15/07/2009)

I've just heard the news on TV and had a look on the above website. The earthquake measured 7.9 on the Richter scale, so it's a decent sized rattler. No evacuations have been ordered but small boats and pleasure craft have been warned to return to shelter and ocean going ships to remain in deep water.

There's no warning as far as Queensland, just for the coastal areas of the southern states and Norfolk and Lord Howe Islands. Just goes to show...when you're sitting at home playing computer games with the TV on in the background, you never know what you're going to hear.

I hope there are no fatalities and that people's homes don't sustain too much damage.

This is the first I heard of it. Right now all the news here is about a local car hijacking with a baby in the back.. The baby has been recovered safely but they are still looking for the man and the car.

Normally we get all the news from the whole world from TV channel Euronews. But they haven't said anything about it, so it wasn't that dangerous. Fortunately !!! I think with the last bushfires you really had enough !!
Today for once it's nice and warm and after my meeting with my painting group girls (we are on vacation, sigh but some of us come even without teacher) I will blog in the garden !

Thanks for the compliment on my purse. I am a little bit proud of it!! Smile. It took about 3 days to crochet the hard part was putting it together and lining it. I am on my second now for my granddaughter Madison.
Come back again..We leave in the morning on a trip to take my parents back home.

Hi Robyn ~~ I heard this too, but there hasn't been any more on it.
Do hope the danger has passed, the thought is too awful.
Take care, Love and Hugs, Merle.

Gosh, that's scary. I suppose we grumble about our weather in Wales but have very little in the way of such dangerous drama
