Strange Morning Noises

The other morning I heard this long, drawn out "waaaaaaaaark" followed by a staccato "wa-wa-wa-wa-wa-wa-wa". I was most intrigued and determined to find out who, or what, was making this peculiar noise. I crept from window to window then when I reached the laundry I saw these two...

Ms Wood Duck, who was making all the noise.

Mr Wood Duck, who was ignoring her completely, far more interested in preening his feathers. Someone's really going to have to tell Ms Wood Duck not to beg and that playing hard to get is by far the best way to get her man...er...drake.

I can't imagine looking out my window and seeing such beautiful creatures. I love ducks, They always walk in such a funny way.
Ms Wood Duck needs to let Mr Wood Duck think that she could care less about getting his attention. He will be shocked at this. Ms. Wood Duck will surely gain his attention then.

On the other hand, if you don't ask you sometimes don't get.

How fun! I hear strange birds around here once in a while but am seldom able to find them because of the dense wooded area behind the house where they like to go. I even got binoculars and with them was able to see some smaller tree clinging birds on a huge Fir tree.

Mr Wood Duck must be a bit of a metrosexual....

Yep, males love to hunt their women down.... *giggles*

Metrosexual was the word that popped out in my head when I read the caption on Mr. Wood Duck.

That's unusual: it's more often the male pursuing the female. (Though not in my experience ...)

Yeah, if he's not careful she'll get bored and fly south for winter ...

(or north)
