Just in Passing...

Don'tcha feel sorry for this little fella? Wonder what he's done to need a bath...

Went to Ms Flossy's yesterday for a jewellery party. Won myself a voucher for $25 and although I had decided to reign myself in and not buy anything, I succumbed and bought a pretty bracelet. I also said I would have a party as well, so Ms Flossy did ok from me.

She is still not yet online but it's understandable when I explain it. You see, Ms Flossy has given up smoking and consequently, her life is a little bit stressed at the moment. However she is doing very well and we are all proud of her. Anyway, I said I would bake something to help out with eats for the party and made an oaty apple loaf. It's a beautiful, moist, long keeping loaf. But I was running late and wasn't able to let it cool enough. Of course, when I went to pick it up to wrap it, it fell in half. It sure kept its heat for a while because it's a 20 minute drive to Flossy's and even an hour after that, it was still quite warm and therefore impossible to cut. We ended up with a pile of crumbs. Oh well, you get that...

Actually, I think the loaf might have been doomed before I even started making it. Firstly, it's supposed to have sultanas in it and I didn't have any. That was ok, I substituted dried chopped apricots. Then I forgot I had run out of baking powder and had to run next door to borrow some off Jane and of course, as you know, the poor loaf fell to bits - probably in despair!

Speaking of Jane. We buy a Lotto ticket between us each week and today, yippee! We got some return on our "investment". We won fifth division, not once, but twice on the same coupon. Total of $55 - $27.50 each. Thanks to Tammy for the "Lotto dance". (She did a rain dance the other week and we had heaps of rain - she has powerful magic, that one. Must be something to do with being a Southern Gal!).

Master Cooper and his mama came to visit the other day. I went to help Ms Toni with her shopping on Monday and poor little boy, he was not a happy chappie because he'd had his immunisations earlier that morning - three injections, how cruel! Still, I guess better a moment's pain than contracting something terrible like polio, but still, I felt for the poor wee soul. When his mama was the same age and had to have her immunisations, the doctor gave her the jab and she didn't cry but boy, did she give him a look to kill! It was quite funny and a sign of times to come. Because I always say Ms Toni can give the best dirty looks ever...ooooh yeah!

Hey, we have some wonderful news about Ms Gabbie. She has been invited to take chemistry, biology and physics next year, in year eleven. Apparently, because these subjects go towards the sought after professions like medicine, science, etc. students are not automatically allowed to choose these subjects, the ones that the teachers feel will be the most likely to pass are offered the opportunity. The rest of the students do general science. We are really chuffed about it because it means her teachers think she has a pretty good chance at a high OP in year 12, and of course the high overall places are the ones which get automatic entry to uni.

Anyway, I won't brag any more - it can get a bit much, can't it? Talk to you all later.

One of our cats years ago got into a pool of motor oil somehow.

You should have seen us bathing that cat. To his credit, he seemed to know that we were helping and never once scratched or tried to get away.

Just looked very sad and embarrassed.

Lol poor kitty! Gosh, I haven't gone to a jewellery party in years...I used to go to all of those things, like makeup parties, Tupperware, jewellery, etc. They just don't seem to be around that much anymore!! Hey, congrats to you and Jane on the lottery win...I always say one of these days they'll make a mistake and pick all my numbers:-) Awww don't you hate that when something you bake for an occasion gets ruined? Yet, if it's just for yourself, it turns out perfectly!! Murphy's Law! Hope you're having a great day:-)

Pooooor kitty !! I have that photo, and it is just sooo funny !! I have never been game to bathe a cat ... don't think it would go down too well !! The current kitty, and the past kitty, are (or were) both very strong creatures, with very sharp claws, who didn't like water too much. Fortunately, they have never been in a situation where they needed a bath .... thank goodness !!
Take care, Meow
