Very Sad News

About 2.30 this afternoon we learnt that Steve Irwin, the Crocodile Hunter, was killed in Far North Queensland during the making of a television programme. Apparently he was barbed in the chest by a stingray and died instantly. I was at work in the city when the news came through and we were all devastated.

Steve Irwin was a passionate and dedicated larger than life personality who died doing what he loved best. He left behind his wife, Terri and their two children, Bindi and Bob. It's it just so sad because he personified Queensland and the typical Aussie larrikin personality to the max.

We won't forget you, Steve, and may you catch many crocodiles on "the other side".

On a lighter note, I had a wonderful weekend with Colin and Adrea. We had a great party on Friday night, believe it or not, we played Abba, the Eurythmics and Wham! As I am on acreage and the neighbours were present, we didn't worry too much about noise.
The next day we went into Southbank, took a ferry ride down the river (which was jammed packed with boats in readiness for Riverfire) and eventually ferried back to South Bank. We had a great view from the restaurant I had booked us into. But I almost had a heart attack. Adrea had gone to the ladies, Colin and I sitting talking when the next minute there was this horrific noise. It was the F111s doing their dump and burn and we were totally unprepared for their arrival. Adrea was most irate that she had missed them but fortunately, they did a return swoop 30 minutes later, and this time, I was prepared. It was absolutely spectacular!
I had a lovely weekend with my bro and sis-in-law, they were wonderful house guests.

Sorry, going to have to go. Steve Irwin's death is all over the news and they're running various interviews with him. It's just so hard to come to terms with.
Crocs rule!!!!!

I was saddened to hear the news about Steve late last night (here). He was a symbol of Australia to me even though wrestling crocs is not my idea of a good time.

My first thought after the initial shock was "at least he died as he probably would have wished", doing something he loved.

My heart goes out to his family.

Thanks for the comment today on granny.

Terrible, sad news about Steve. I loved him, and his work. He was amazing. I think it is terribly sad for his wife Terri and kids.
Take care, Meow

I hadn't heard about Steve Irwin's death until last night when my son Corey asked me if I'd heard the news about him...when I said no, he told me what had happened. I was so shocked and didn't want to believe him until I turned on CNN and they were talking about it! I loved watching Crocodile Hunter and was always in awe of his seemingly fearlessness with dangerous animals. He will be missed and my heart goes out to his family! Aside from that, I'm glad you had such a nice time with your guests:-)

Yes we are sad about Steve's death. I think it was a bigger shock because he had spent his entire life in dangerous situations and it really seemed that he could not be hurt.
I also pray for his family.
