It's been raining on and off all day and is a bit bleak. This morning I was up at 6.30, put some washing on then logged in to work. That kept me busy for the morning and I finished about lunch time.

It's school holidays so Fred is at home with the boys as Jane has to work. Saw him wondering around earlier doing things in the garden...he's a very keen gardener and has transformed this place. He reckons going to work interferes with his gardening time...I can understand that. But, oh, that man gives me a hard time...loves stirring. I was born in New Zealand and even though I'm Australian citizen, the Kiwi tag sticks and I get all these jokes about sheep. Funnily enough, there are more sheep in Australia...but, I dunno, the Kiwis get the sheep jokes all the time. I won't mention any...this is a G-Rated blog, supposedly.

I've just finished reading a Colleen McCullough book called "Angel Puss". It's unlike her usual writing and when I first started reading it, I wondered if I was going to like it. It's about Kings Cross in the 60s...you know...brothels, prostitutes and the like...unlike today where it's supposed to be trendy. I reckon it had more personality back then...all those lovely terrace houses in Darlinghurst Road with the decorative wrought iron lace trimmings. They were beautiful. I'm not sure if they're still there.
The last time I went to the Cross was in the 70s...there was a group of us females and we had a hilarious time. Six of us went into this sex shop and believe it or not there was a bin full of dildoes...on special. Well, we couldn't resist it...we had so much fun with these things the owner kicked us out as we were bad for trade.

So we wondered down towards the park...Hyde Park? Dunno, can't remember. I'm strolling along looking in the shop windows when a guy comes up, grabs me, waltzes me around a couple of times and choofs off up the street leaving me wondering what was going on. Oh well, it was an experience.

I remember Mum and Father were with some friends and they had been dining at one of the restaurants in Kings Cross. They were walking along, deciding which bar to go to when Mum suddenly realised Father wasn't with her. She looked back and saw him talking to a young lady, who was offering him her wares for a good price. Mum calmly walked up, grabbed him by the shirt collar and hauled him away...much to the young lady's, and everyone else's, amusement.

A friend of mine used to be one of Les Girls...he was Barbra Streisand...and in full wig, makeup and dress, you'd have sworn he was the real thing. It was the nose...Jeff had the nose for it. Another friend of mine, actually he was an ex from way back, used to flat across the road, or somewhere close to Les Girls and he and his mates used to frequent the same bar. Apparently they all got on very well..."girls" and blokes. I heard some amazing stories, but as I said earlier, this is a G-Rated blog...sorry!
The animal in the top right-hand corner is, no, not a kangaroo, but a wallaby. They are a lot smaller than kangaroos, although belong to the macropod family, and have a pouch for their joeys, too. Wallabies are only one of quite a large family of macropods of varying size, including kangaroos, pademelons, rock wallabies, etc.

Robyn,
Gardens, hookers, politicians and wild animals. That's a plethora of topics for your blog. I think you could give the "girls" more time though. ;-)
I'm still chuckling about your mother collaring your dad who was being offered a proposition.

Ah, "The Cross" how many of us have wandered through this place with mouths agape at the goings on that are going on there.
Certainly not fishing for compliments Robyn, always amazed that people keep coming back.

Hi Robyn ~~ Great post - you covered a lot. Glad you got some rain, we are hoping for some next day or so. That Fred and his work interfering with
his gardening. I wouldn't worry about his teasing, the Kiwis I have met are all very nice. Angel Puss sounds like
it might be interesting. Thanks for your comments, it seems a few feel diagonally parked in a parellel universe.. Let's make the best of it.
Take care, my friend, Love, Merle.

Hmmm. Perhaps that “G” rating can be expanded a bit to maybe “PG.” I could use a few titillating stories in my more and more dull existence.
