Aaaah, it's a Good Life

I have cannelloni cooking in the oven....mmmmm, smell that garlic! The sun is going down, my place is cosy and I'm sitting here with a glass of wine, ready to blog.

I've had a busy week and damned I know where the time has gone...but here I am once more. I've just phoned my mum in New Zealand, so she talked to me while Harold was cooking dinner. Now that's what I call a perfect partnership. All is well with them but my cousin's partner had a road accident. He was jay walking and someone did an illegal U-turn and Hugh ended up in hospital with a broken leg and cuts and abrasions all over. He's got stitches in his head, his legs and his feet. Apart from that, he's okay. Just getting pretty frustrated because he can't ride his bike, go for a walk or just jump up to do something. My cousin rolls her eyes as if to say..."men!"...heheh!

My brother and sister-in-law have moved to the beach. She has given up work completely but he's going to work part time, otherwise he'd go nuts. He loves playing golf but there's only so much golf to play, besides which, he wants to be home with his wife a lot more. Her son and daughter-in-law went to the hospital with them but as yet, we're not sure what's happening with my SIL.

There is a very nasty epidemic of Type A flu that's hit Queensland. A couple of kids have died already. Apparently, it's a very bad respiratory type flu that hits the chest and upper respiratory system. Poor Jane has had it all week, has had two lots of antibiotics and is still full of it. She's gradually getting over it, but it has left her totally without energy. Touch wood, I haven't had it yet and I certainly don't want to get it, either.

Schools are short of teachers and some have had up to 100 pupils absent a day. The health authorities are advising people to wear masks and not to go to work or school if they have any symptoms.

There are protests and what not going on with the State Government's plan to merge councils. A lot of local councils are operating at a loss and so a study was done and some councils have disappeared and others have become bigger. The one that's in the news at the moment is Noosa Council. They have been amalgamated, with all others, into one Sunshine Coast Council. Well, people are not happy! There was a big rally in the city outside the State Parliament yesterday...but, Peter Beattie, the State Premier, was elsewhere. He's standing firm...he's a Scorpio and he ain't going to change his mind, no how! Should be an interesting time coming up.

To be quite honest, I agree with amalgamation...what's the point of rate payers' money just going to bail them out of the sh*t? Better to amalgamate, save money and being a bigger entity, the new council will probably get a lot more done. But those are my thoughts only...a lot of people disagree.

Our weather is just beautiful, a lot warmer...but no rain in the foreseeable future. Level 6 restrictions are coming up but seeing as how people have saved water to below the 140 litres a day level, they won't be as harsh and we'll still be able to bucket water the garden on our alloted days. Although we have three 22,000 litre tanks of water, we still have to be careful because they have to last until it rains again...hopefully in the summer.

Meanwhile it's been so dry, we are being warned that it could be a horrific bush fire season because everything is so dry. I could cope with a flood but I have a pathological fear of fire, so I'm not looking forward to the next few months.

However, I will worry about that if and when it happens. Take care everyone. I'll try and get around your blogs later. My cannelloni is nearly cooked...yum.

Please stay well. Flu is nothing to mess with.

I wish you had had a flu shot! That disease is so prevalent; I wish they would just cure it already instead of designing new sleeping pills. I thought flu was only cold weather related, so I am surprised that it is there. You take care and wash your hands all the time!!

That sounds like a nasty flu ... hope you manage to avoid it.
Fingers crossed you get some rain soon, we need more, too. Wow, Level 6 restrictions ... we are on 3a (whatever that means!!).
Hope the canneloni was yummy.
Take care, Meow

Robyn,
Between you and lee it's been a veritable Italian fodd fest around the blogsphere this morning. Well, morning here, and night time there. ;)
Our oldest and youngest (the birthday boy) are here with their companions for the weekend and the weather is perfect. A cold front slipped down from Canada last night and booted the hot muggy energy sapping air out of the area.
HANDWASHING ... OVER AND OVER ...IS THE BEST PREVENTATIVE.
Sorry for talking so loud, but it's so easy to do and so many don't do it.

Cannelloni?? Do you know how long it's been since I've had cannelloni??? Love that stuff!

Enjoyed reading all your news...poor Hugh, I do hope he recovers fully from the accident! Talk about being in the wrong place at the wrong time!

Here in Ontario, a lot of our towns and cities were forced to amalgamate a few years ago and it's now been decided that it doesn't work. But, it would cost too much money to go back to the old way. I've always said politicians don't know how to do anything right! lol

Oh dear, I do hope you can avoid that flu, it sure does sound like a nasty one. Hope Jane recovers from it soon!!

Take care my friend! xox

That flu sounds as if it is potentially devastating. Not good. I’m glad you have warm weather, which is good. I can almost smell the cannelloni cooking in the oven, which is… well, I love to make some but 95 F temperatures without a working air conditioner limits what I now do around the stove.

Hi Robyn...I had pizza last night...and meatloaf the night before! ;) I wonder why that was?

I'm for some of the amalgamations but I don't agree that Noosa should be amalgamated. I'd rather see it stand alone....just my humble opinion! ;)

Being an ex-Noosa-arian...I'm with them up that way!

It's turned a bit nippy up here on the mountain, again...so I'm snuggled up inside...blogging!

I hope you had/are having a great weekend! That glass of wine sounds very tempting...I could be persuaded!

Hi Robyn ~~ I do hope you can avoid that dreadful flu - it sounds like a bad one. I hope your cousin's partner will be OK again soon.
I haven't done any more music, as it
was the novelty of doing it on the computer. I have heaps of CDs also.
Not as many as Peter though. Glad you liked my Heron he gave me. Weekend is all but over, but don't wish Summer here too soon. Take care my friend, Love, Merle.

I wish we could send you some of our rain. I went to the football last night and got soaked. Despite quite substantial rainfalls they still predict we will stay on water restrictions although they're not as tough as yours.

Take care with that flu. Very nasty.

You got to watch out for all those nasty deseases.
We all get flu shots here for free but sometimes I wonder if they work when I find myself sick with flu like symptoms.
I hear galic is the cure for mosty things though :)
