Irrepressible!

Yes, that's my almost 88-year-old mother whom I rang today. We talked about all sorts of things plus the upcoming wedding. I was bemoaning the fact that, having had my clothes shrink (!), I'd had a hard time finding an outfit. I also made the comment that even though I exercise, it doesn't really make much difference although I'm pretty careful about what I eat. Mum agreed, then added...she was careful about what she ate, it was what she drank that was the trouble. She loves her glass or two of wine at night...but I understood where she was coming from. Like mother, like daughter?

Then she told me that she sent my cousin's partner a card for his birthday and had a thank you reply from him with the comment that he was looking forward to her next birthday party in December. Mum went on to say that she wasn't having a party this year because Harold was taking her away for a dirty weekend.

Once I had recovered from the guffaws of laughter that overcame me after that comment, I told her that if she couldn't have a dirty weekend at 88 years of age, when could she? She doesn't change, my mother.

She told me my brother rang her up and said in a high pitched, whiny voice, "Mummy, A's making me go out to work and I want to stay home and play golf!" Mum laughed her head off and said to him, "Well, A's very naughty." She said she could hear my sister-in-law making rude comments in the background. If you think we're a mad family, you're right!

I had to tell you about my mum...she's one out of the box. Enjoy your week.

Your mom sounds like a wonderful lady! 88 years - wow, she's had a long life! :)

My mom is a group fitness instructor and personal trainer, and she says it's all about the amount of exercise and the kind of exercise you do. The general recommendation of 30 minutes, 3 times a week of cardiovascular exercise will keep you heart healthy, but won't do much for your waistline. To lose weight, you really need to do resistance/strength training, 3 times a week, and cardio exercise for 60 minutes about 4-5 times a week.

like a lot og fun and is doing well to reachh 88 and still enjoying life. Good for her.
Thanks for your comments, the days sure do get away from us. I don't think I use my time to best advantage, but changing isn't easy. Take care, Love, Merle.

Well Robyn, your Mum sounds like my sort of gal with a great sense of humour.

I pretty much eat and drink whatever I want these days and stay the same weight. However, I do regularly walk about 20 kms a week with my Avon round and the kids keep me active.

Honnestly I prefer a mad family and a mother like yours then my stinky normal parents with an old behaving mother since her birthday !
I am back from Italy in a "normal" world at least concerning internet connection ! I have never had that since I am blogging ! Not even from Egypt or Turkey. From 1 h Internet I could use maybe 45 min at the beginning and then 15 the last 3 days ! It was awful. We arrived home at 1.30 pm made the trip in two shots of course. Now I have to catch up on all news in blogworld ! So I have a lot to read, lol ! Sorry that I couldn't comment, but am happy that everything is OK with you ! There were quite a lot of Australians at the Garda lake because it's an international wind surf place and apparently a real paradise for that ! For you and your mum also a paradise for wine ! lol !

You very fortunate to still have your mother, Robyn. My Mum passed away many years ago...she was only 54 years of age...far too young. Your Mum sounds quite a character...and good on her! :)

I like the sound of her "dirty weekend"! ;)

Robyn, your mom sounds exhilarating! By chance, I just spoke by phone with my 85-year-old-mom and her conversation consisted mainly of her regular list of aches and pains and how ungrateful one of her grandsons (my son) is. I must say that your conversation must have been much livelier than mine.

Your family practically mirrors my family! Mum asked me yesterday if she could bring her 'boyfriend' over to stay and if I would allow them to sleep in the same bed. I told her that I didnt care if they had the headboard-a-bangin... as long as I couldnt hear them lol. If you can't say it out loud... then what's the point?

I missed you heaps and am back to taunt you again! xox nic

you're so lucky! my birth mother was an alcoholic and I never saw her till an adult and then it was a disaster. my step-mother? Less said the better. At my age I would still like to know what it's like to have a mom. So I want that good relationship with my own kids when I'm old.
