Shock for Queensland

Our Premier, Peter Beattie, announced his retirement today, effective Thursday. Love him or hate him, Queensland's media tart has made his mark on history.

He will be missed. Controversial, open, down to earth and with a grin like a split in a watermelon, Pete was never ignored. He made mistakes...don't we all, but he was honest enough to admit them and say sorry, he buggered up (and in those words).

We'll miss you, Pete. If nothing else, you gave us something to argue about around the lunch tables at work throughout Queensland. Good luck to you, it's been a good ride with the Labor Party.

Wow! I'm getting the news from your blog Robyn! (I've been at work all day, came home late, and haven't had the telly on!)

Lucky I have you to keep me informed!

He sure looked weary during his announcement today.

Always good to have something to talk about around the lunch table :-)

Good luck with the new one!

There is something sad and even nostalgic about the retirement of politicians, even if we considered them our adversary in the political realm. I even felt sad many years ago when Tricky Dickey Nixon resigned the U.S. Presidency. Relieved, yes; but also a bit sad.

Hi Robyn, you little "news bringer" with visitors taking up my time your post was where I first saw the news too.
Beatie seemed to lose the plot about 6/12 months ago until then I had always liked his style.

A true politician will admit his blunders and keep on trying to make things right, thats a good politician not one that looks for a rug to sweep things under.

Very nostalgic post...it's sometimes a good thing about politicians retiring, but still there are memories of the good and the bad.

"Long live the King"!!! Oh, oops wrong country....[just kidding of course, I couldn't help myself]
