Someone to Watch Over Me.

I had this little fellow on my bedroom wall last night watching me while I read my book. This is a house or Malaysian Gecko and not native to Australia. It's also called the barking gecko because of the "chuck, chuck, chuck" noise they make, which is an integral part of our summer sounds.

This little guy would be about six or seven inches long, I suppose.

They have gradually moved down from northern Australia and we like them because they eat cockroaches...so bring on the geckos. They don't harm any of the Australian geckos and love insects like mosquitoes, flies and any other unwary creature that gets in the way of their tongues. They're rather nice little creatures and quite harmless. Just as well, because no matter if you are in a hermetically sealed building, they still get in...don't ask me how!

I had a couple of regulars when I lived in the city whom I named Einstein and Newton (I took it for granted they were boys). However, this one gives me the impression of being female so I think Cleopatra is a good name for her.

Am I right in guessing that Cleopatra "talks' more than Einstein and Newton did??

Good idea Cleopatra fits, especially because I just came back from her country yesterday evening ! Unfortunately I only have fat spiders sitting at my walls and I could never read a book in their company, lol !
Now I suffer to cold ! From 30° to - 2°brrrr and I am still with one foot in Egypt ! Our holidays were so wonderful that now I have the blues !

Robynn,
A vivid imagination is a wonderful thing. If only Mark would show up to complete the picture.

I could never live with them! (I bet the cats could, though), and you are a brave woman to calmly read in bed with reptiles (amphibians?) crawling around. I just couldn't do it. But I'm glad they are harmless.

We have those little guys here but I did not know that they ate cockroaches!! Boy if they do that here i am all for them too. Our cats get them off of the porch and bring them inside. I rescued one the other day from the Jaws of DEATH!!
I am so infuriated over this someone who almost ruined my computer!! How dare they do this to me!! It is like getting robbed all over again!! I have a great neighbor who is so smart and it is working again. Just be sure that you have a lot of spyware and a GOOD virus catcher. Sandy

Isn't she cute? We have got heaps of blue tongued lizards around our place at the moment. The dogs keep trying to play with them and the lizards hiss and look quite threatening. I always take the dogs inside when I see one because I've heard they can give a nasty bite. I don't know if thats true but don't want to take any chances with my little babies.

Oh Robyn, I'm glad you like the geckos, because we have so many that they give me the creeps! They drop off the pantry door as I open it, they scuttle across the floor while we're watching TV, they leap out from cupboards ... ewwww!!

Hi Robyn ~~ They sound like a good thing to have, but I am not too sure
I could live with one. I like how you name them and imagine what sex they are. Thanks for your comments about
Steve ~ that's how far behind I am. He was a great loss to this country, but mostly to his wife Terri and the kids.Is your granddaughter OK ?
Take care, Love, Merle.

Good qualities aside, I think Cleopatra would have to "live" outdoors...lol!

I'll take your word for it that they are nice! lol I just find it so fascinating the different species of insects, animals, etc that you have over there. Hope all is going well with you, dear Robyn...I didn't post anything on my blog today, instead want to concentrate on visiting everyone. Plus still trying to thaw out from my day out yesterday...it was -8c for the Santa Claus Parade in the evening. I was dressed warmly but still froze! lol xox

Gidday Robyn,

Yep, I have 3 or 4 geckos outside my kitchen window and as moths are attracted to the inside light the geckos have fun? chasing, catching and eating the sob, poor ole' moths.
They can get in anywhere, under the bottom of the cracks in your door, when you open your door to go outside. Sneaky little buggers.
