Too Much Going On

I know! I've been really slack this week, but there is so much sport on! First off, though, I must show you how the rain has affected us...

...see how green the lawn is compared with a few months ago, when it was so dry and bare.
Cricket
At present Australia is playing India in the third test at Perth. Ricky Ponting (above) is captain and can be a pretty controversial fellow at times...but he is well loved by Australia.

My personal favourite, the rather lovely Andrew Symonds, who is playing well. The 2nd test of this series created ructions with charges of racism, sledging and the Indians threatening not to play the third test. However, all was resolved, the two captains had a sit down and chat, hands were shaken, charges dropped and the third test was on again. However, Australia is not doing too well and may lose it...oh well, you get that.

The Australian Open - Tennis

Roger Federer won today, after a hard fight against the Serb Yanko Tipsarevic. Federer is such a gracious winner, too, it's easy to see why he is so popular.

I was really looking forward to seeing Lleyton Hewitt play Marcos Baghdatis tonight, but it's going to be on so late because the Federer/Tipsarevic match took over four hours! First, too, is the match between Venus Williams and Sania Mirza which I'm watching at the moment...then, the Hewitt/Baghdatis match, but I think I'll be missing that one.

This young Australian lass, Casey Dellacqua, has beaten Amelie Mauresmo. She was a complete unknown, but now everyone wants to know her. She made the news by saying she bought her tennis and practice outfits at Kmart because they were so comfortable. Kmart obviously liked the idea, too, and decided to sponsor her. Then she wins against Mauresmo...terrific! So we've got our fingers crossed for Casey.

The Williams girls are their usual flamboyant selves and play really good tennis, too. Actually they're wonderful to watch being the elite athletes they are...their beautifully toned bodies and of course, their fashions and bling! I loved Venus's little pink shorts...so did Roger Rasheed...he made no bones about it.

So that's what I have been doing over the last few days...oh, and fitting in work around my sport watching activities...one must get one's priorities right, don't you agree?
Later tonight, I want to catch the last Michael Parkinson show (oops, sorry, Sir Michael Parkinson, now), which is a 90 minute special tonight before he retires. Saturday night TV is just not going to be the same. Good luck, Parky, you'll be missed.

Dear Robyn ~~ As it is just after midnight, let me wish you a very Happy Birthday. I hope you really enjoy it, and get some nice presents.
I have been doing much the same as you watching sport in between normal things. My favourite is Adam "Gilly"
Gilchrist among the cricketers.
This was a good post. Take care, my friend, and again Happy Birthday.
Love, Merle.

Well Robyn, I'm not all that much into cricket or tennis but in a few very short weeks, the footy will be back on and then I become a couch potato. Gee I hope my husband being away working doesn't interfere with me being able to go to the games....I'd better come up with a strategy for that and pronto.

How I wish we could get some of that rain. Everywhere here is brown and dusty. It's so depressing.

Hi Robyn, my jungle looks nice and green too and the ground is quite soft underfoot at the moment, but not as damp as central Queensland and around the Warrego.
The cricket finished up fairly predictably with us losing comfortably in the finish.

A Very Happy Birthday Robyn.hope you get some nice goodies,
I think most of Australia watching Cricket and the tennis. Im watching more tennis than cricket. I stayed up watch the little Aussie girl win then stayed up till after 2am to see the outcome of the Roddick game, which he went down in. just waiting for LLeyton Hewitts game to start. think ill need match sticks to keep my eyes open lol.

I am so glad that rain has finally been helping you guys. We have it here today too and it is all dark and dreary. Supposed to get pretty cold for us here in the South.

As this people have no whiskers, cute ears and don't purr, they are of no interest to my ! I don't like sport not even at TV, lol !

Geez, I don't know what Blogger did it's already the second time that it happens, the WC scene was for tomorrow and to me it was a draft ! Now I put it in draft again and hope it works this time ! But apparently only you and Claudie in France have seen it.
Can you imagine such a thing happens to you while you are sitting on the thrown ?

Criket is a bug right? Sorry I am completely ignorant about the game.
Now in the states we are having the NFL & AFL playoffs (football)and then the Super Bowl and college hoops (basketball) but in Feb. NASCAR starts with its biggest race Daytona 500.
Peace be with you and again I wish you a wonderful birthday.

I've been watching Australia open too, but my priority right now is European Championship in Handball and the Norwegian team is doing pretty good :-)

I didn't realise you were such a big sports-fan! I like watching the tennis, but cricket leaves me cold I must confess (don't hate me! I know it's very un-Aussie of me!).

Your blog is looking great, by the way.

And, is it true, the rumour? If so ..... HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!

Merle said to drop by - so here we are HAPPY BIRTHDAY - we will toast you at our Sunday lunch, we used to follow the tennis and cricket here in England but since retiring have found there is only so much we can do - and we choose to ramble (in more ways than one :) )
Take Care.

Hi Robyn ~~ Hope your day is going
really well. Great that Leighton won
and bad luck the cricketers didn't.
Thanks for your comments, glad you liked the Puppy story, it was new to me. I hope the floods have not affected you at all. Pretty bad in central Qld. Take care, Love, Merle.

Just popped by to see if you were being affected by the floods. My parents on the Gold Coast are thrilled as it keeps the drought at bay for a while.

Hi Robyn,

Merle said it's your birthday today. Well, I hope I'm not late, because in the US it is the 20th today, but you're probably just about into the 21st.

Anyway, Happy Birthday, Robyn. I hope it's the best birthday ever! And many, many more!

Blessings,

Renie
