I had saw this fellow sitting on the clothesline this morning and it reminded me of the rondelay we used to sing at school when I was about 9 or 10.
Kookaburra sits in the old gum tree.
Merry merry king of the bushes, he.
Laugh, Kookaburra, laugh, Kookaburra.
Gay your life must be.
Fred had made a fishpond in the garden and put some fish in. Guess what?...They made a nice snack for this bird. In fact, that's why we're seeing quite a lot of him. Both Jane and I told Fred the kookaburras would get the fish...but, according to Fred, they'd be okay. They'd hide under the water plants. I hate to say I told you so...
Enlarge the photo, it's a good one of the bird, even if I do say so...

What a great photo! We only have Kookaburras in zoos around here.
Hi Robyn ~~ I love Kookaburras, but I guess that Fred doesn't. Can he cover the pond with bird wire?

What ??? you had a Kookaburra in your garden ? I am sooooo jalous ! I dream of having one, they have such a funny laughter. I even have the sound on my computer !!
Hi Robyn. Beauutiful photo of the Kookaburra I enlarged it for a good look. My sister sunk some bird wire just under the water level so u cant see it now the fish are safe.. I have shade sails so the birds dont seem to come under them.
My favourite bird - I miss them and their laughter here in the Youkay. Christine
p.s. I enlarged and it is a great photo, you can see the breeze blowing through her feathers.
I enlarged the photo, boy, is he pretty. You can't blame a hungry bird, he probably said thanks. Thank you for coming by.
