Kookaburra or Laughing Jackass

I had saw this fellow sitting on the clothesline this morning and it reminded me of the rondelay we used to sing at school when I was about 9 or 10.

Kookaburra sits in the old gum tree.

Merry merry king of the bushes, he.

Laugh, Kookaburra, laugh, Kookaburra.

Gay your life must be.

Fred had made a fishpond in the garden and put some fish in. Guess what?...They made a nice snack for this bird. In fact, that's why we're seeing quite a lot of him. Both Jane and I told Fred the kookaburras would get the fish...but, according to Fred, they'd be okay. They'd hide under the water plants. I hate to say I told you so...

Enlarge the photo, it's a good one of the bird, even if I do say so...

Hi Robyn ~~ I love Kookaburras, but I guess that Fred doesn't. Can he cover the pond with bird wire?
Sorry you are feeling so cold up there. It is OK her the day today was 11C to 15C and tomorrow will be
10 tonight and 16 top temp. Not too bad at all, and it will get worse.
Take care, Love and Hugs, Merle.

Hi Robyn. Beauutiful photo of the Kookaburra I enlarged it for a good look. My sister sunk some bird wire just under the water level so u cant see it now the fish are safe.. I have shade sails so the birds dont seem to come under them.
