I Can't Win!

You may or may not know, but I've been on a determined bid to lose weight.  I used to be obese, however, after losing 17 kg I'm merely overweight.  Anyway, I also had a rant a few weeks ago about my doctor pushing pills on to me.  I have a new doctor now.  She's Cuban, has the loveliest accent and boy, is she thorough...and I feel safe with her.

She sent me off for blood tests to check haemoglobin, cholesterol, blood sugar, etc.  I was very keen to see what the cholesterol results were.  In the past, I'd been just above the maximum range for women and I was sure I'd dropped the levels by my weight loss.  My cholesterol was up!  To 6.1...I was really pinged off about that.  Here I was doing all the right things...for what.!  Not only that, but the liver enzymes were also raised and the haemoglobin was a little low.  Not that that really surprised me because low Hb seems to run in our family.  But I'm sooo pissed about the cholesterol levels.  As for the liver enzymes...not sure what that's about because I don't even have my evening glass of wine any more...haven't done so since last year.  So that means an abdominal ultrasound and drinking litres of water beforehand.

However, there is one good thing...my blood pressure is back to normal, so I'm no longer on antihypertensives.  I guess there's a silver lining somewhere, isn't there?

I'm still pissed off though!

I know....I know just what you're going through on this....weight, cholesterol, meds...doctors! It's all a big hassle but so needed.

I've learned that a lot of cholesterol problems are stress related....

And if you found a good doctor, discuss it with her. See if she can help you control it....WITHOUT more meds.

Keep us posted.

PS...I'd be p-o'd too!!!!

I am completely desoriented, I thought I was on a wrong blog, you changed your template !!
I don't worry about cholesterol anymore. I have a very high level since always, that's apparently in my family. I have over 300 if that says something to you. My doctor years ago pulled his hairs out when he saw my results (I was 40 then) but it never changed, not with pills and not with diet. I feel well, have no troubles, my weight is right, so I don't bother.
It's certainly not the wine then all Frenchs, Italians, Belgians and I don't know who else would have enzymes ! Here the doctors say that a glass of red wine is even good for blood pressure.
You will see you will live 100 years, and meanwhile we will visit each other and compare our booboos !

Our bodies do such strange things that seem to defy logic. Since being diagnosed as diabetic, I've been using a neat little computer program to keep track of everything I eat. Looking at the graphs on the computer, I have noted that my sugar intake seems to have no relationship to my blood glucose level. I could consume 0 sugar (including all of the hidden sugar in things like cereal and sauces) and my glucose level could easily rise. I could binge on pastries and ice cream for 3 days and my glucose level could drop. I don't understand it!

Hope your levels get back to normal soon! That's so frustrating.

I wish you luck on lowering your cholesterol, and hope your ultrasound comes out fine.

It seems that there is always bad news at the Dr's.

Being pissed will do things to your blood pressure, so watch it.

btw, it is better to be pissed off than pissed on. snerx.

Take care and listen to your doctor. Surely she won't be pushing the pills.

Dear Robyn ~~ My cholesterol was a
great 4.0 but that is with a tablet."We like our diabetics to be 4 or under" Congrats on losing so much weight and hopefully this new doctor will be a big help to you. Glad you enjoyed seeing some of my family. They live 5 hours away down south, so were impressed with the warm weather here and were sun-baking their legs. I am not too impressed myself as the heat has come too soon and so
suddenly. Lots of 30s and over, a 33 and 35 this week. I start complaining about now. Take care
Robyn, my friend. Love. Merle.

Everything about our bodies is frustrating! lol I'll just never understand the workings of cholesterol, high/low blood pressure, enzynes, etc. I hate going to the doctor for anything anymore, all they seem to want to do is push pills at you. Hopefully this new doctor of yours will help you more than the other did. At least having your blood pressure back to normal is a good thing:-) xoxo

Husband had a complete health check recently and they told him to get more exercise - and he already gets loads more than most people. Also his good cholesterol was low.

But well done on your weight loss and you look great in your party outfit!
