After a Few Days' Absence...

This is the second go I've had at producing a post today. I accidentally deleted the first one - not good. Fortunately, I had only done a sentence or two, otherwise I would have been most upset. So, here we go again... Hopefully with more success this time.

I just happened to glance out of my big lounge room window and saw what I thought was a bird hanging upside down in midair. It was a bird all right and hanging upside down, but when I looked closer, it was hanging off a very thin branch that I couldn't see at first glance. It really looked most peculiar, especially as it seemed to be swinging itself back and forth, almost like a little kid swings on a gate. Strange bird...I think the cat biscuits have had an adverse effect.

Well, the World Cup Soccer is over, State of Origin has been and gone for another year and so life gets back to relative normality, until the Australian Open Tennis Tournament, that is. Still that's not until January. Actually, it's usually around the time of my birthday and as I just love the tennis, it's about the only time I watch TV during the day - unless it's the Olympics. I think the Australian Open is wonderful and one day, I hope to get to Melbourne and watch it in person. I reckon the atmosphere would be electric, especially during the finals.

I have been enjoying reading other blogs that I stumble across when I'm browsing. What would we do without our computers? I just couldn't imagine life without mine now. I use it to earn money, to keep in contact with my family and friends, to play Mahjong, to search for stuff, the uses are endless. What did we do before the Internet?? Watch TV? Read books? (I still do). Write letters and send them by snail mail - how antiquated! My, my. We are a technical mob, aren't we? But I actually do know one or two people who are not all interested in computers, have never used one, much less owned one. In fact, they don't like computers at all. Well, we can't all be the same, can we? In fact, I rather admire these people, because I think I'm somewhat of a slave to mine!

I rang my venerated mother last week. She had her cardiac assessment the other day to see if she would be able to stand the anaesthetic for a gallbladder removal. I had given this some thought and I couldn't see why she should have any problems with the anaesthetic. She has angina, but not too badly, and a cholecystectomy is only 20 to 30 minutes in duration. Whereas people who have far worse heart problems have had hip replacements, and we are talking hours under anaesthetic here, not mere minutes. So I rang to tell her she should tell the hospital she wanted to have the surgery regardless. She was of the same mind, as it turned out. As she said, she has lived a lot longer than her three score years and ten and she wanted quality of life not quantity. Let's face it, at getting on for 87, who wants to be restricted in what they can eat and drink. Mum has always had an extremely healthy appetite (I know where I get mine from), has always appreciated her food and loves her one or three glasses of wine before dinner (ditto). If she is going to shuffle off her mortal coil under anaesthetic well, what a way to go. If not, she can enjoy her meals without worrying about bringing on an attack of cholecystitis, which is excruciatingly painful. Anyway, as I said to Mum, only the good die young so she's here for a while yet! She agreed...

We are the process of trying to agree on new tops for our uniform at work. Now, if you have ever tried to get about 10 women to decide on one colour and style, you will have some idea of what has been going on. For one, I don't like stretch fabrics in tops. Being somewhat heavier than I used to be (what a lot of rubbish! My clothes have shrunk), I'm not keen on stretch fabrics for tops. But I am outnumbered, so I forget style and have a look at colour. I like the idea of red. Nice bright colour and looks good with navy which is what the skirts and trousers are. No, that's not liked by the majority. They've had red in the past. Ok, how about pale blue? No. Cream or ivory? No. Well, what then?! You'll never guess - navy. Yep, the tops are navy with a white diagonal pattern of some sort. Sigh, oh well, I will have to go with that, I guess. Majority rules and all that.

Well, after all the grizzling, I've just about got time to go to the bottle shop and buy some more wine. Talk to you all next time. Be good to yourselves.

It is very hard to find tops that aren't stretchy anymore...I just buy them in a bigger size and if the shrink up (which they "always" do) then I've got a little room to work with.
Hope your Mom does well!!
:-D

Upside down bird. Maybe it emigrated from the USA and is still confused.

Your color sounds like your country in some ways. Honest and authentic.

Those little mini tests are fun.

My grandpa, who will be 98 in two wks had his first ever surgery for removal of his gall bladder at age 93! The Dr's were amazed at how well he did. They said he did much better than some patients half his age. (He is a non smoker, which was a consideration for the surgery at his age)
Good luck to your Mom...

You sure that wasn't a bat and not a bird hanging upside down??? lol Very best wishes to your mom when she goes in for the surgery...laughed at you telling her only the good die young and her agreeing! hehe As for the new uniforms, it's unfortunate that you had to go along with everyone else's decision...my clothes are always shrinking too!!! Have a wonderful day:-)
