I've Upgraded...

Oh good, it worked this time. I tried to upload this earlier and of course, blogger being blogger, wouldn't let me. Then I got a message asking me if I wanted to upgrade to beta blogger. I have read that some of you had this and I couldn't figure out where to find it. Never mind, all is well and now I can have some fun titivating my blog, I hope!

This the first time I've had to post this week. I had to work extra days and I think it will continue until Christmas. Bit of a drag going all the way into the city, but the extra money will be handy. Just as well the company that I work for at home is pretty flexible. Basically I work when I want for as long as I want each day. I guess it depends on how much money I need for that fortnight!!

I had a great time earlier catching up on all the posts I've missed out on over the last few days. Autumn in the northern hemisphere while Downunder the storm season officially started on 1st October. Now every year, we get dire warnings about how this is going to be the worst season yet for storms and we will probably have a bad cyclone blah, blah, blah. I know we're in the running for a cyclone, after all they hover off the coast of Queensland, the Northern Territory and Western Australia often enough and of course, some are going to head towards the coast and cause havoc.

The last time a cyclone hit Brisbane was in 1994/95, Cyclone Bella, category 1, pretty mild as cyclones go, but it caused consternation here and there. The last one that was totally devastating to Brisbane, causing the river to break its banks and create a massive flood was back in 1974. Hopefully the city fathers are correct when they say they have actions in place to prevent that from happening again.

Anyway, I'll get down off my soapbox. I have to go anyway. I have a friend coming for lunch in about 30 minutes. Lunch is chicken and salad and I've made a pineapple sorbet for dessert. Lovely fresh pineapple, yummy. I actually wanted mangoes, but the ones I saw yesterday weren't ripe enough. Never mind, pineapple will do.

Have a good weekend everyone, and I'll catch with your posts later on today, I hope.

About time you posted something, Robyn!!!!!! ;)

I was living in Toowong, Brisbane at the time of the '74 flood. It surely was an incredible Australia Day weekend that one..one to remember. At one stage, those left in the block of units where I lived and I headed down to the Regatta Hotel to see how far the water was up...of course, none of us had any money on us! So, a couple of the guys pawned their watches over the bar so we could have some rum and cokes! lol Everyone else was having some and we didn't want to miss out! People were evacuating by boat from the houses around...we headed back home across the rail tracks. My unit was a town house so I moved everything that I could to the upstairs level and left the rest to nature! The water came up within an inch of the top stair (two stairs) which led into my laundry area. I was fortunate. The house behind me, though, had to evacuate. It was a high-set old Queenslander and the water covered their floor boards. It's incredible how water finds its own level.

Let's hope if we do get cyclones this season and I hope we do get them (but not the devastion, of course) that they pull down the monsoonal trough and the dams in the south-east area get the water they so desperately need. We need those 'lows' to bring the heavy, lingering rain...therefore bring the run-off for the dams.

These past few years, Western Australia seems to be copping more cyclones that we do here in Qld.

I've heard so many horror stories about Beta Blogger, I'm leery of actually switching to it!! Glad to see you haven't run into any problems with it so far:-) I guess they will eventually force all of us to do the switch! Does sound like you've been quite busy but like you said, the extra money will come in useful, especially with Christmas not being that far away!! Oh dear, I do hope you don't get any major cyclones up your way this year. Hope you had a fun time with your friend...your lunch menu sounded delicious:-) Hugs xoxox

I'm not looking forward to switching to beta, I've mucked around so much with my template, so I probably wont move until they 'make' me.

I grew up in Townsville and spending a night under the house while we waited for the cyclone to hit was quite an adventure - I hear they are predicting lots of bad weather this storm season?

Robyn, I loved your 'health' jokes, very funny, thank you, and yes, I found you!
