The Melbourne Cup Goes to Japan!

The Race that Stops a Nation is over - and the Cup goes to Japan. They got the quinella (1st and 2nd) and the rider of Delta Blue only knew a few words of English. However, he sounded pretty rapt with just those few words! It was a good race and - my horse is still running!!

We all brought something in to work for lunch and we had a wonderful spread. We didn't need to pay $100 or so to go to a corporate marquee, we had it all including a magnum of champers! Yessss! Only thing was, after just a half a glass of champagne, all I wanted to do was go to sleep afterwards. The last hour-and-a-half at work was deadly - I kept nodding off! Champers does that to me, that's why I rarely drink it.

But what did you think of some of the fashions? You should have heard some of the guys at work - on second thoughts, it's probably just as well you didn't!

Good news on the rain front. After the downpour last night, on the six o'clock news it was said that Wyvenhoe Dam got 30mm. Wow! Two lots of water in the dam in three days, gee whiz! And, apparently (according to the boffins) it is now the worst drought in one thousand years, not one hundred. I'm impressed - I didn't know anyone was around then...

So, who amongst all you Queensland ravers out there is going to the U2 concert tonight? I would have liked to go but I'm trying to win tickets to see Robbie Williams (I know, I know I should act my age - well, I am!!!!). There are five opportunities for two people to be flown to Perth, stay two nights, and get pretty awesome seats for the concert. If you watched Better Homes and Gardens last night, you'll know what I'm talking about. Those are the tickets I'm trying to win - even if it is a nine hour flight to see the concert!

Right, that's my say for the day - going to fill up the wine glass now! Ciao!

Robyn,
I kow how you feel with the champaigne! I have a glass of wine with din-din most everynight (not on on-cll nites). If perchance I partake of a 2nd glass it's an earlier bed time than usual. Disgusting isn't it?

I'd love to see Robin Williams, he is a favorite of mine...but 9 hrs? ...nope! not that much of a fav. ;-)

I'm not familiar with the Melbourne Cup. But the rain is good news!
I met one of those thousand year old weather persons...Quite wrinkled and dusty...creepy lookin' if you ask me.

Hey...cut that nonsense out, Robyn! What's this 'acting one's age!' nonsense! I'm on my tenth childhood...! ;)

I love champagne...particularly this time of the year...it starts to flow pretty freely here! ;) I've got a luncheon here at home on Saturday...so there will be more corks popping...and then there's the lead up to Christmas...then New Year...and then...well, I'll have to find some more excuses! ;)

Hi Robyn ~ Glad you had a fun day at work. I wish I had had a flutter as I chose Delta Blues, because I barrack for Carlton Blues and I like
Delta. I didn't know he was from Japan. We may never win another Melb. Cup again !! Glad you got some rain
and hope we do soon down south.
Take care, Love, Merle.

Rel: Wine doesn't seem to have the same effect is champagne does. Must be the bubbles!

Lee: Aah, but I didn't say exactly which age, you see. Certainly not the current one!

Merle: Oh what a shame you didn't have a couple of dollars on Delta Blue. It would have been a rather nice bit of spending money. You could be right about never having the Cup in Australia again. Scary, isn't it?

Peter: Ah hah! I like the great minds bit and I so agree, lol!

Tammy: Bottoms up to you too, my friend!

Nic: I'd better not throw my knickers at him - it may be a bit nippy!! lmao

What is this you say? You reckon we won't get the Cup back from Japan? Hey! Wash your mouths out, you lot! ;)

It will make our trainers even more determined!

And I promise I'll do a 'Basil Fawlty...and "not talk about the war!" ;)

Hi Robyn ~ Thanks for your comments and your concern for my back. It will
come good again, I guess. Glad you liked the jokes. There are some dumb
burglers all right. Also some darn clever ones, unfortunately.
Take great care my friend, and who wants to act their age? You can be old at 40 and young at 80.Depends on
our outlooks !! Love, Merle.
