Saturday

It's past five o'clock in the afternoon so I've got my glass of wine and am ready to do some blogging.

It's threatening to rain, but on the radar, it's very light at the moment, hopefully getting heavier later as the met. office has promised. Fingers crossed.

I thought I'd show you what I got Nick and Mayo yesterday, bearing in mind that whatever I bought would have to withstand the vagaries of various parcel handlers before it arrived in Holland

It's a really cute honey pot with a dipper. After looking in my favourite gift shops and discarding thoughts of photograph frames, photo boxes, sets of glasses (not a good idea) and other dead end ideas, I came across this in a last ditch effort to find something before I went home.

It's a household gift store called, appropriately enough, "House" and has lovely home wares with a difference. Handpainted spiced vinegar bottles, crafted wooden table runners and...this lovely honeypot. There were only two of them but they caught my eye and that was the decision made.

It is packed in polystyrene inside its box, but I will put it in another box with polystyrene beads to really protect it, plus "fragile" and "handle with care" stickers.

There is a lovely recipe for Spiced Honey Butter on the outside of the box so here it is:

Spiced Honey Butter

1 cup margarine or butter (whichever you prefer), softened
1/2 cup of honey
2 1/2 teaspoons grated orange peel
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

Combine all ingredients in mixing bowl. Mix well. Makes 1 1/2 cups of spiced honey butter. This recipe is excellent on your favourite muffins or toast.

Sounds delicious, doesn't it?

Here are the photos I took of this lovely little honeypot.

The pretty gingham box with the Spiced Honey Butter recipe

I love the little bee on the handle of the dipper

Such a lovely bee-friendly honeypot!

Isn't it cute?

That honey pot is delightful. I understand the risk you would take shipping it to Holland. When I was a young and newly married army officer stationed with my wife and newborn son in Germany, my mother-in-law mailed us some Christmas treats. Her Christmas specialty was an Italian cookie she made from figs and other delectable. She placed these in a 1 lb coffee tin to prevent the gooey cookies from get on the other tasties.

When the box arrived in Germany it was smashed almost flat and the tin containing the cookie looked as if a tank’ tread had squished it and sent the gooey cookies over everything else.

May that honey pot, packed so well and lovely by you, have a much safer trip!

Love this pot, I actually collect honey pots with bees on so I will track this one down for my collection which ranges from new to antiques. I also collect lobster Carlton Ware but that's another story. Hope you got some good rain - mum and dad are on the Gold Coast and they say they are desperate.

O! I am feeling rather chuffed because I too have this honey pot with the bee on the end of the dipper it is a lovely gift. Being a seller on ebay as I am I always have to thing about how the parcels will survive the trips and my husband once said well kick them around the lounge room for awhile and if they survive here they will be fine out there (yer! right as if I'd do that)

My only ofer of help is to wrap each piece bottom lid and dipper in their own buble wrap and then place in peanut foam inside a box and don't have them touch inside the box.

Well I wish you good luck and I know she will love the honey pot from Australia.

As always I love visiting you and your blog just wish I could do it much more often my friend.

i have a kind of personal credo.. this is bearing in mind as long as you have time, money and choice... nothing should be functional that cannot also be beautiful...

i remember buying one of those round honey blobbers in the 1980s. it was supposed to make honey easier to blob into coffee... it was certainly more entertainment than using a boring old teaspoon that was for sure

hey RAIN in Australia am I reading this right ???

WOW!!!

Robyn,
I've always thought "fragile," and "handle with care" was code for; toss liberally and often. Usually a prize is given for the one who "inadvertantly crushes the box.
I'm sure your honey pot will arrive unscathed and be appreciated for years to come. ;-0

To tell you the truth : It's more than cute ! It's gorgious, lovely even I would take one like that. I am sure they will like it very much. It's also original I have never seen it here (and we have the same stuff and shops as Holland) you really made a very good choice !
BTW I published pictures etc from my trip to the South East Coast so if you are interested take a look.

I love it; it's adorable, and they need it because nobody else will think of it. I need another one. Mine keep breaking for some reason. Can't figure out why.

I'm still looking for my gift Robyn so congrats on finding yours. Its very cute. Make sure you really do pack it until you can't fit any more packing in the box. I once worked at Australia Post and I swore I would never send another parcel after seeing the way they handle them. Then of course there's the airline staff....makes you wonder how anything turns up in one piece.

I'm sure your gift will be cherished as it was picked and packed with such tender loving care.
